Elk Meadow Cabins – Sustainability

At Elk Meadow Cabins we have committed to green vacation rental policies and the implementation of proactive measures to help protect and sustain the environment for future generations. We strive to conserve natural resources through the responsible use of energy, water, and materials while maintaining the high quality of service expected by our guests.

  • Investment in renewable energy with our Solar Panel Array on each cabin, totaling 134 Solar Panels producing a total of 43.5 Kilowatts of power!
  • Investment in Battery Storage is in process.
  • Electric vehicle charging stations on site.

  • Low Energy Appliances and Lighting Fixtures, including WiFi controlled thermostats to closely monitor usage, and adjust to save energy when rooms are not in use.

  • Reduction of potable water use for landscaping.

  • Recycling! Paper, cardboard, glass , and plastics. We strive to ensure waste is properly sorted by our staff, to maximize the amount of recycling on site.

  • Reducing Single Use Water Bottle Waste by installing high quality Reverse Osmosis Filtered water systems in each unit for our guests!
  • Reduction of waste packaging by the purchase of bulk items and cleaning materials.

  • Not using pesticides or toxic chemicals on the property as of 2020.  Within one year, insects including dragonflies, bats, swallows and birds of prey appeared in greater numbers.
  • We are in the process of eliminating the store of chemical cleaners and are transitioning to sustainable and local products where possible.

We are transitioning our entire operation to sustainable products, that are run by social benefit B-corps.

    • Instead of hand soaps and shampoos, we are moving to Dr. Bronner’s – the ‘poster child’ of sustainability, and B-corp.

    • 7th generation glass cleaners, dishwashing soaps and pods have sustainable ingredients, also a B-Corp.
    • Vinegar/Water cleansers for the cabins contain no toxic ingredients.

    • We are transitioning to use of biodegradable, compostable plastic substitutes so that this waste does not exist for future generations using the UNNI ASTM D6400 standard.
    • We are using vegetable based sponges, that prevent ocean depletion and are biodegradable.

    • We are in the process of transitioning to more sustainable materials for sheets, towels and covers, the OEKO-tex standard. Many textiles and dyes can be toxic. The OEKO-tex standard assures that these are sustainably made.

Thank you for staying at Elk Meadow Cabins and supporting sustainable and green tourism!
